In 1759 the Presbyterian Synod of Philadelphia established the first life insurance
corporation in America, obtaining a charter for the 'Fund for Pious Uses'
that had operated since 1717.  It came to be known as the Presbyterian Ministers' Fund.

Welcome to Life Insurance for Christians

I imagine some visitors to this website might ask, what on earth is life insurance for Christians?  Isn't life insurance available for everybody?  Isn't the idea of life insurance and the process for getting it the same for everybody, regardless of religious beliefs?

Well, yes, life insurance is available for everybody.  And, the basic concept and process of insuring a life are the same for everybody.  Here's what is different for Christians.  Life insurance for Christians stands on the Biblical beliefs we hold … beliefs that should motivate us to acquire life insurance, beliefs that instill the duty we have to others to own life insurance.

"What beliefs?" one may ask.

Why Life Insurance for Christians?

Some years ago, a renowned communicator in the life insurance business, now deceased, wrote an article entitled "Insurance: The Non-Believers."  The article appeared in the leading life insurance industry trade paper, National Underwriter.  The author asserted that "the first group [of people] that 'didn't believe' [in life insurance] was composed of fundamentalist clergymen, who preached that 'the Lord will provide,' and that any other sustenance was unnecessary."

That remark so contradicted the historical record, I could not let it go unchallenged, so I wrote an article in response.  It was called "True Believers."

I noted that, in fact, from its earliest days in America, the cause of life insurance advanced largely because of the Christian ministry.  The pro-life insurance clergy and leading lay members of Christian churches prevailed against social prejudice by persuasively arguing biblical, theological, moral, and even scientific principles.  As insurance historian Alexander Mackie wrote in Facile Princeps,

"Life insurance in America began with churchmen and philanthropists."

That is not at all surprising.  It makes perfect sense.  Christian leaders have advocated the purchase of life insurance, because they understand what Paul said in I Timothy 5:8,

"And whosoever does not provide for relatives and especially for family members
has denied the faith and is worse than a nonbeliever."

The Reverend T. DeWitt Talmage was one of the most prominent churchman of the latter half of the 19th century.  His sermons were published regularly in over 3,000 journals, and he served as editor of the Christian Herald and Signs of Our Times.  Rev. Talmage preached:

"It is meanly selfish for you to be so absorbed in heaven... that you forget
what is to become of your wife and children after you are dead....
It is a mean thing for you to go up to Heaven while they go into the poorhouse.
[The man who dies uninsured] did not die, he absconded."

For this reason, I created LifeInsuranceForChristians.net.  I hope it will fulfill four purposes.

Fulfilling Four Purposes

The first purpose of LifeInsuranceForChristians.net is to remind Christians of our special responsibilities to those who depend on us now, in this life.  Do our love and concern for our families or employees die when we die?  No, not anymore than Jesus' love and concern for us died when he was crucified.  "For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son."  Shall each of us then refuse to accept our moral obligation to secure our family's future?  I would hope not.  As Paul said, we must do our duty to care for our family members.  We must reflect and act on our duty to protect.

Husbands and wives should protect each other.  A mother and father should protect their spouse's financial ability to raise their children and to fund their children's education and start in life as young believers.

The second purpose of LifeInsuranceForChristians.net is to highlight some of those moments or events in our lives when it is especially important to own life insurance.  And, if we do already own life insurance, these moments are opportune times to double-check that we have enough life insurance to sufficiently protect our families as our circumstances change.

Our third purpose is to bring wider recognition among Christians to the grave fact that many of us are uninsured and most of us are seriously underinsured.  This is an unpleasant reality, but we must face it.  Nearly 40% of all Americans and 30% of U.S. households own no life insurance at all.  And, 56% of U.S. households (over 65 million) have no individual life insurance.  That percentage is a 50-year low and double the percentage of households without individual life in 1960.

Did you know that a few years ago a J.D. Power and Associates study showed that, among surviving spouses (ages 35 to 50) with children, fewer than 25 percent of them felt that their deceased spouse provided them with enough life insurance?

Seven in 10 households with children under the age of 18 would have trouble meeting everyday living expenses within a few months, and 40% would immediately have trouble!

This is the great fear.  This is the horrible worry.  This may be hard to take, but the truth is we must be realistic about our situations and exercise our Christian responsibilities.  It is our duty to provide for our family and protect them from the loss of our earning power in the event of our death.  Responding to that call by purchasing life insurance gives our families security and peace of mind and makes for a much happier situation.  Investing in the stock market or saving at the bank should come second to insuring our lives.

The fourth purpose of LifeInsuranceForChristians.net is to provide fellow Christians like you a place where you can:

  • Easily calculate how much life insurance your family needs,
  • Shop the best insurance available from the finest life insurance companies, and
  • When you are ready, use this website as a quick, easy way to affordably purchase needed insurance protection for your family.
  • You're in charge.  You decide when you want to buy.  No insurance agent will come to your door.  The application is done over the Internet and phone.  The program is very quick and simple.  In fact, the process is so easy and fast that it's called QuickLife.

    Buying Your Life Insurance

Essentially, you have two ways to buy life insurance through LifeInsuranceForChristians.net.  Whichever way you choose to purchase it, we are confident you will be pleased to discover that life insurance doesn't cost anything near what many people think it costs.

    (1) If you qualify to purchase life insurance without a medical exam, you can get your 'simplified issue' life insurance coverage virtually overnight.  The convenience and speed of acquiring this policy may run you a little more in premium, but it is convenient and saves you a lot of time.

    (2) If you want a policy with the least expensive premium, you can always apply for what is called a "fully underwritten policy." That means the application process includes a relatively brief and basic medical exam.

In either case, click on the link to 'Get Started' and connect with the Life Insurance Center, where you can get the best quotes and apply for life insurance.

And, if you have a question or need a little help, call toll-free 866-504-2882 where the Life Insurance Center representatives will be pleased to help you (9:00 am to 9:00 pm Eastern, Monday through Saturday).

The famous Reverend Henry Ward Beecher put Truth in a Nutshell when he said:

"Once the question was:   Can a Christian rightfully seek Life Assurance?
That day is passed.   Now the question is:

Can a Christian justify himself in neglecting such a duty?...

We have no right to trust God for anything which
He has enabled us to obtain by our own skill and industry."

Fulfill your Christian responsibility to provide for the ones who depend on you.
